So you want to know what this is all about?

A blog about astronomy, astrophysics (yes, there is a difference!), outreach, and any other random things I feel like ranting about. Why? Well, why not? It's something that I know a bit about after studying it for several years.

Who am I? Currently I'm a postdoc at ASTRON.  Previously I was a postdoc fellow at the Curtin Institute of Radio Astronomy, a cross-disciplinary Institute involving staff and students from Physics and Engineering at Curtin University of Technology and part of ICRAR. Most of the time I work on starburst galaxies, although I've been known to dabble in other things. I'm involved with some pretty cool projects, such as an e-MERLIN legacy survey tracing galaxy evolution known as LeMMINGS, and an ASKAP survey proposal to search for OH megamasers. I've also been the outreach coordinator for CIRA, Curtin's rep in the AstronomyWA collaboration, a member of the SKA Outreach Committee, and am still responsible for the News segment of the Jodcast each month.

Before embarking on what may turn out to be a dead-end career path,  I was a PhD student in radio astronomy at the Victoria University of Manchester's Jodrell Bank Observatory. I was also on the committee of the local astronomical society and spent far too much time doing various public outreach and schools projects.
