Galaxy, IRAS
Our own Galaxy is interesting in all parts of the electromagnetic spectrum. With our eyes we can see many clusters of stars and the dust lanes that run through the disk. The dust is warm and so shines brightly at infra-red wavelengths, while we can look straight through it with radio telescopes, peering right into the heart of our Galaxy.

This map shows our Galaxy in infra red light, as seen by the Infrared Astronomical Satellite.
